Spring 2026: A Painter’s Palette — Singapore in Bloom

This season, both my sketchbook and photo albums have been delightfully filled with the vibrant colors of spring blooms. From blossoms brightening almost every corner of Singapore’s streets to the quiet sanctuary of my own home, nature has offered a masterclass in color and form.

Streetside Spectacles
The Trumpet Trees (Tabebuia rosea) are out in full force—affectionately dubbed “Singapore’s Cherry Blossoms.” Their delicate petals carpet the pavements, creating a dreamlike landscape that feels so welcoming.

Another striking muse has been the Red Powderpuff (Calliandra tergemina var. emarginata). Its free-flowering, pom-pom blooms offer such a unique texture that I’ve often lost track of time gazing into their fine, radial lines.

Golden Hues and Velvet Vines

Spotted across the island, the Yellow Saraca (Saraca thaipingensis) has been a recurring highlight. These clusters of gold provide a brilliant, high-contrast pop against the deep green of the tropical canopy.

I also found myself captivated by the Sandpaper Vine (Petrea volubilis). While named for its famously rough leaves, the plant is incredibly elegant with star-shaped flowers in shades of pale blue and violet. Observing the way the light hits those cool tones has been pure magic for my recent color studies.

Inspiration Closer to Home: My Balcony Blooms

While the grand street and park displays across Singapore were breathtaking, some of my deepest inspiration comes from the small-scale wonders on my own doorstep.

My humble balcony garden has been putting on its own quiet show. There is something deeply grounding about painting the flowers I’ve nurtured myself—watching the light shift across my own little green sanctuary as the day fades. These intimate balcony sightings are often the silent stars behind my latest sketches and floral abstract works.

This is one of my newer floral works, inspired by the season’s vibrant blooms. You can explore more from my floral collection here: https://www.ashwiniart.com/collections/floral
