The Art of Being: The Phoenix Eye and the Plume

There is a certain magic that happens when you just step out and let the world speak. My nature walks aren't about "getting steps in"—they have become a practice of tuning in and surrendering to what is around me.

Nature doesn't hurry, yet everything gets done. It lives in a constant state of now, and it’s always reminding me to do the same.

I’ve walked past the Sterculia tree many times, noticing those striking red pods splitting open to show their dark seeds. I always loved the velvet texture and the way they remind us of life’s natural cycles—how there is a perfect time for everything to open up.

But recently, the whole scene finally clicked into place. I caught a Yellow-crested Cockatoo skillfully working on the fruit, eating with such focus and grace. The combination of its dramatic yellow plumes against that deep, velvety red was just... delightful. A vivid, natural masterpiece right in front of me.

Watching the bird in that state of flow—completely absorbed in the fruit and the moment—reminded me yet again of the power of being present. They aren’t worried about yesterday; they are just here.

The Power of Now

To me, nature always pulls me out of my thoughts and back into my body. Next time you’re outside, try to find your own "Phoenix Eye." Look for one small detail—a color, a texture, or a bird in flight—and let it remind you that this moment is exactly where you’re meant to be.
